Leopard tortoise (Geochelone pardalis)

Leopard tortoise belongs to familia: Tortoises (Testudinidae)

They are found throughout the savannahs of Africa from Sudan to the southern cape. They are herbivores eating plants, vegetation, leaves etc
The leopard tortoise is the fourth largest species of tortoise in the world, with typical adults reaching 46 cms and weighing 18 kg, larger examples may be 70 cms long and weigh up to 54 kg, the giant Ethiopian may be 100-cms in lenght.
It is a large and attractively marked tortoise. The carapace is high and domed, and pyramid shaped scutes are not uncommon. The skin and background color is cream to yellow, and the carapace is marked with black blotches, spots or even dashes or stripes. Each individual is marked uniquely.
They are more defensive than offensive, retracting feet and head into their shell for protection.
